Latin Baby ~ Disney’s Latin America Films

All About “Blame It on the Samba”

Yet another amazing article from Musica Brasiliensis.…this time about the last major appearance of one of our Latin American bird friends (Jose Carioca) in a Disney feature, the “Blame it on the Samba” segment of the surreal “Melody Time,” which I absolutely love, and was dismayed to find that the version I was peddled on iTunes (off the 1970s Saludos Amigos combo album) doesn’t feature Ethel Smith’s mind-blowing Hammond organ work. Being a former organist myself, that’s my favorite part of the song.

Anyway, here’s a video of the segment if you’ve never seen it….

Yes, the Aracuan bird is there too T_T;;;

The lyrics in English may not be all that great, but the instrumentation and animation are incredible ^_^

i just bought the dvd from disney. it’s saludos amigos and the three caballeros, and you’re right!!
that whole
“rhythm of the samba” section is missing
why would they do that?
legal trouble with misrepresented cultural appropriations??
this sucks

Errr, this is no mistake, romina. “Blame it on the Samba” is a short from Melody Time, not from Saludos Amigos or Three Caballeros. It’s on the latest DVD release of Melody Time.

Yes, diffrent movies. It would of been nice to have “Blame it on the Samba” with the bonus shorts. You take what you get though.
Yes, beautiful animation. My dad saw this and was like “What the hell are they doing in that drink? They must of had a little too much acid”. It does give you that impression.

Ethel Smith was born Ethel Goldsmith, she was Jewish. She married to a Gentile man but divorced.
