Feliz Navidad, Happy Holidays, Boas Festas – Holiday Comix Covers

Here are some nice holiday-related Brazilian comic book covers from the ever-wonderful Vila Xurupita.

  • Santa José Carioca and Scamp the puppy.
  • Zé: I want cigars and pretty girls and samba records and money and blank checks and more money….
  • There are more, so…continue reading!
  • Well, now you know what it’s like to be swindled from, José.
  • The caption says “Merry Christmas with Pedrao Noel.” The brown guy is Pedrão, one of Zé’s friends. This is a play on the Portuguese equivalent of “Papa Noel,” or Father Christmas, but I have never seen a Father Christmas dressed like Pedrão is here, so I guess it is something Brazilian. I am guessing here, but…maybe this idea comes from a region south of the equator, where it wouldn’t make sense for Father Christmas to be dressed in winter furs because Christmas comes in the summer. Hee hee, the tag on Zé says he is a present for Rosinha :D
  • I don’t know whether Zé’s nephew is more upset that someone is using his present, or that “Santa” is apparently his uncle. Because parrots don’t have beards.

Stumbled upon your blog a week ago and decided to come back. Not for the articles you write, but for how you write them, really amazing stuff you’re doing here, i like how you put information into the articles which makes it much more easier to read and much more interesting of course. Keep up the good work!
